Motherhood on Monday

September 28, 2015

In case you woke up on a rainy Monday needing a good laugh, a good cry, and motivation to press on in this journey we call motherhood, these are for you…
“Sometimes when you pick up your child you can feel the map of your own bones beneath your hands, or smell the scent of your skin in the nape of his neck. This is the most extraordinary thing about motherhood – finding a piece of yourself separate and apart that all the same you could not live without.”
― Jodi Picoult

“It’s not our job to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world. It’s our job to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless.”
― L.R. Knost

“A little girl follows me. I do not dare go astray, for fear she’ll go the self-same way. Not once can I escape her eyes. What ere she sees me do, she tries. Like me she says she’s going to be, that little girl who follows me.” Elisabeth Elliott

“If I cannot give my children a perfect mother I can at least give them more of the one they’ve got–and make that one more loving.  I will be available.  I will take time to listen, time to play, time to be home when they arrive from school, time to counsel and encourage.” ~ Ruth Bell Graham

“To be in your children’s memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today.” – Unknown

“I’ve discovered that this act of mothering is my worship to Him right now; dying to self and delighting in them. There is failure. Oh yes. It is messy and sloppy sometimes; yet, there is forgiveness and grace and growing.” Lovelyn Palm

My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her. ~ George Washington

“This is what I’ve come to believe about change: it’s good, in the way that childbirth is good, and heartbreak is good, and failure is good. By that I mean that it’s incredibly painful, exponentially more so if you fight it, and also that it has the potential to open you up, to open life up, to deliver you right into the palm of God’s hand, which is where you wanted to be all along, except that you were too busy pushing and pulling your life into exactly what you thought it should be.”

And an amazing video about moms that made me cry…

I needed that today! The Elizabeth Eliot quite especially stands out to me as I’m homeschooling my daughter for the first time and feeling her eyes on me more and more. Thanks for brightening my Monday!
